Understanding Your Dog, Strengthening Your Bond

Hi, I’m Lucia Lyu, certified dog trainer and founder of Hush & Dash Dog Training. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years of training, it’s that effective communication is the foundation of a well-balanced dog. Training isn’t just about teaching commands—it’s about understanding your dog’s needs, building trust, and creating a lasting partnership.

My journey began over ten years ago with my first Border Collie, Chris. Like many new dog owners, I faced challenges and took missteps. Determined to do better, I immersed myself in canine behavior studies, exploring science-backed training methods, and completely fell in love with the work. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to helping dogs and their owners in the Greater Vancouver Area, and I’ve never looked back.

To deepen my expertise, I pursued formal education through Animal Behavior College, where I earned my dog training certification, and I also volunteered with multiple rescue organizations and a service dog training facility. Over the years, I’ve worked extensively with dogs of all backgrounds: puppies, rescues, high drive working breeds, and dogs with behavioral challenges, and helping their owners build strong, cooperative relationships.

Our Training Philosophy

  • Training should be fun. At Hush&Dash, we believe a well-trained dog is also a happy dog. Training isn’t just about structure and obedience—it’s about letting dogs be dogs. Moments of freedom, play, and exploration are just as important as learning commands.
  • Training should be effective. Clear, positive communication fosters real, lasting behavior change. We focus on practical skills that help your dog succeed in everyday life, whether it’s walking politely on a leash or coming when called.
  • Training should strengthen your bond. Every session is an opportunity to build trust and connection. A dog that feels understood and confident is not only well-behaved but also deeply connected to their human.

Beyond working with pet dogs, I remain deeply involved in rescue efforts, helping rehabilitate and rehome dogs in need. Whether you’re welcoming your first puppy, working through challenges with a rescue, or looking to improve communication with your current dog, I’m here to guide and support you every step of the way.
